Summer is here, and that means you get a chance to kick back, put your feet up, and enjoy the long days and warm nights. Whether you’re jetting off to new and exotic places, or visiting old favorites, having a well-stocked beauty bag is essential to traveling in comfort and style.
Here are our ten must-have items for your summer travel bag.
Nail Polish Touch Up Kit
You went to all the trouble (and expense) of getting a mani-pedi before your vacation, so imagine how aggravating it’s going to be when it chips or flakes after a day of swimming and exploring. It’s bound to happen, so you may as well be prepared. Take along a bottle of whichever color you’ve chosen for your big trip (a mini bottle is best, as it saves some space) and either a travel-size bottle of nail polish remover, or some nail polish remover wipes.
Whether you’re relaxing on the beach, splashing in the pool, or sweating your way through crowded and exciting cities, the last thing you’ll want to be dealing with is runny mascara. A quick swipe of a black or dark brown mascara to help define and lengthen your lashes may be all the makeup you need for your more active days, so don’t forget it!
Regenerative Night Cream
Travel can be extremely rough on your skin. Nothing dries you out quite like a plane flight, or hours in the hot sun, or perhaps a little overindulgence at the wine bar. Fear not! Just remember to pack a high-quality regenerative night cream to boost the natural repair process that your skin undergoes at night.
Your lips can become really dry while traveling too. Whether you choose a tinted lip balm or something clear, make sure that it has an SPF of at least 20. And don’t forget to reapply throughout the day. You only need to experience sunburned lips once to remember how bad it can be.
And speaking of sun damage, don’t even think about traveling without sunscreen! Take more than you think you need, and in multiple bottles. Throw one in your purse, one in your beach bag, and one in your carry-on luggage. This way, you’re less likely to leave the hotel or rental property without it.
The days can be long and the nights can be even longer while you’re on vacation, but this is no excuse to sleep in your makeup. Healthy skin is clean skin, so make the job a bit easier for yourself by taking your favorite makeup remover and spending that extra minute or two before bed. Your skin will thank you.
It can be a real hassle having to take your heated hair tools with you on vacation. When they’re not grabbing all the available space in your luggage, they’re wreaking havoc on the incompatible electrical sockets. Use your vacation as a fun excuse to try out some braids, twists, or ponytails instead.
If you have a long flight or face long stretches where it may not be possible to wash your hair properly, dry shampoo is a lifesaver. Simply apply this miracle product, gently work it into your scalp, then brush out the excess. Your hair will look instantly fresh and clean.
Rich Body Lotion
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Between the airplane, the sun, different climates, sweat, and stress, your skin really takes a beating when you travel. Treat it well by applying a rich and repairing body lotion after you shower. If you know your skin can be sensitive to the sun, look for a lotion that contains vitamin E and aloe vera.
Jet lag anyone? So, you may not waltz off the plane looking truly glamorous, but that doesn’t mean you have to spend your entire trip looking like you could use an extra day and a half of sleep. The skin around your eyes needs a little extra TLC when you travel. A good eye serum should fix things right up.
